Learn more about Gabo Island

Venture to sights like Gabo Island Lighthouse Reserve as you discover the local area in Gabo Island.

The lighthouse on Gabo Island guards the eastern entrance to Bass Strait in #Australia. It is an active navigation lighthouse and weather station for the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.
It was built in 1853 from red granite sourced on the island. The wind blew down the windbreak wall, so buttresses were added for stability.
We went to the top for perfect 360 degree views on a blue sky day.
Access to the island is generally by boat and one can stay overnight!
